The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. (http://www.gov.ph/k-12/)

In my opinion, this curriculum will worsen the situation of the poor. K+12 is a long journey for our own country. It requires a lot of budget from our government in order to publicize. In our days education seems very hard to achieve. There are many facilities that the students need that the government cannot provide.

For rich students, it is ok. What about the poor? Can they afford a long education system? Many cannot afford the present curriculum that only takes 10 years, and now 2 years was added. It is a good thing if the government can provide scholarship programs. Knowing nowadays politics, the one that can avail the scholarships are most relatives of the government employees/officials and politicians. And scholarship grants are always on delay. You can’t use it when you needed it most and sometimes scholarship grants especially in form of money vanished.

In the other hand, I cannot blame the government for hoping what is best for our country. I know that they only aim the sake of our fellow countrymen. This new curriculum I guess will be a failure on its first 5 years but will grow on the succeeding years.

As a student, I was thankful (I guess) that I don’t need to undergo the process of the new curriculum. A plus 2 will be a delay for me in reaching my dreams. So I’m happy that I am not affected with the said curriculum. I will graduate 7 months from now, can work 10 months from now and help my family a year from now.
